Our nursery classroom is organised to ensure that the activities and resources support children across the six areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage; Personal, social and emotional development, Creative development, Knowledge and understanding of the world, Communication, language and literacy, Physical development and Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy.
The classroom is divided into areas such as role play, construction, small world, book corner, mark making area, number area, computer, creative workshop and messy play. We also have a ‘snack café’ where children can access snacks and a kitchen where we frequently offer baking activities.Resources are stored on open shelving and pictures and labels are used so that children can make their own choices about the resources they use. Photos, posters and displays of the children’s work are used throughout the classroom.
Esklets possess a very large outdoor area which includes a garden. The children have access to several sheds offering role-play scenarios such as a café and hospital. There is also a large walk-in, covered sand pit which allows the children to work on a large scale. A second covered area is a construction area in which the children can use real resources such as wood, tyres and milk crates. There is a large water play area and space to ride bikes and scooters. Children use a cosy seat in a tent for reading books.
There is also a huge shed in which the children can be inside, outside. This includes plenty of space for large train sets, or farm yards etc. The garden includes raised beds to grow plants in, a role-play house, a willow withy, logs and other natural resources, plants and trees, an area to dig in and look for mini-beasts. As with the indoors environment, the outdoor learning environment is organised to promote and support children’s learning across the six areas of learning.
The outdoor area also includes a woodwork area and a mud kitchen!!
